The concept behind parish nursing is simple: to get church members involved in ministering to the physical, mental and spiritual needs of others. Our parish nurses work in partnership with local churches to improve and manage congregational health. In this capacity they provide health education and counseling, facilitate support groups and train volunteers.
Our Parish Nursing Program offers an organized method of continuing care to our patients through the local community churches. Participating congregations select a leader (usually a licensed nurse) and a health cabinet to address the health needs of the whole person - body, mind and spirit. Prayer, communion, health education, health screening, visitation and referral to community resources is provided by individual churches according to their faith and culture. Feather River River Hospitals Parish Nurse Coordinator is available to assist congregations in implementing this valuable ministry.
Each church has its own unique way of implementing the program. Because needs differ from one community to the next, parish nurses provide health education and spiritual support to a variety of peoplefrom gang members to schoolchildren.
