Medical Imaging
The Department of Medical Imaging at Feather River Hospital provides
the highest level of expertise in a comforting and welcoming
environment.
Radiology Plain Film X-Ray used to take images of the GI tract, head, and spine.
Ultrasound Uses Sound waves (like sonar) to read solid objects in the body. Most often used in OB for pregnant women, or to take images of arteries and other soft tissues.
Nuclear Medicine Uses an injected radioactive isotope tagged with a targeting substance. Once the isotope attaches itself to the targeted area, the radiation is read as an image.
CT Scans Computerized Axial Topography. Uses multiple X-Rays and computers to construct a composite image of an area.
PET/CT Scan Combined Nuclear Medicine and CT Scans. In this case, the isotope targets sugar molecules (to look for areas of high metabolism). PET/CT Scans are most commonly used to look for cancer.
Vascular and Interventional Procedures A wide assortment of imaging and procedures including, but not limited to: Heart Catheterization, Coronary Angiograms, Peripheral Angiography, Peripheral Stint Placements, TIPSS procedures.
Cardiac Imaging A catheter is inserted into the coronary arteries, a dye is injected, and an X-Ray used to make images of the dye dispersion.
MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Uses a magnet to view the inside of the body through a complex process. The patient is placed inside a large magnet, which physically turns the hydrogen ions present in the body. Once the position of the ions has been altered, radio waves are emitted which resonate with the hydrogen ions. The resulting resonation is read by a detector, which renders a visual image.
