Treatment for Acid Reflux Sufferers

Paradise, CA (December 9, 2003)There is an exciting new treatment option available for acid reflux sufferers in Butte County. The treatment, named the Enteryx procedure, is available at Feather River Hospitalthe first in Northern California.

Enteryx is an outpatient procedure performed under conscious sedation, often in approximately 30 minutes so patients can return home the same day.

Patients undergoing the Enteryx procedure are often surprised at how effective it can be, said Dr. Mansell. I like this new treatment because it offers us an opportunity to improve the quality of life for patients.

In the Enteryx procedure, a gastroenterologist injects a substance, a patented liquid copolymer, into the esophagus where it solidifies into a sponge-like permanent implant. Once inserted, the substance is designed to help the esophagus act properly, thereby helping to eliminate reflux.

Gastroenterologists Donald Mansell and Marc Khorsande at Feather River Hospital are currently performing the procedure for the greater metropolitan area.
