Our diabetes
program strives to provide expert diabetes care by promoting self-management,
creating positive partnerships and improving quality of life.
Diabetes
Education Program
Learning more about diabetes is the first step toward living successfully
with diabetes. Join our healthcare team to gain the self-care skills you
need to control your diabetes. The program is team taught by Registered
Nurses who are Specialists in Diabetes, Heart and Skin Care. Registered
Dietitans, a Physician and a Mental Health Counselor.
The following are the class topics:
- Dumping the Diabetes Dragon
- Your Feet Can Last a Lifetime
- Have Your Cake and Eat it Too (2 Classes)
- Diabetes Medication Update
- Exercise for Diabetes
- Beat the Diabetes "Blues"
- Monitoring Your Blood Sugars Workshop
These one-hour classes are held at Feather River Hospital Fireside Lounge,
5974 Pentz Road, Paradise. Participants are encouraged to bring family
and support people.

Cardiac
Rehabilitation Program
People with diabetes are at risk for heart problems. Our program offers
a 12-week teaching and exercise program designed for people who have had
a cardiac event. A healthy diet and exercise can have a profound effect
for people with heart disease and diabetes.

Nutrition
Services
Do you want to make sure your favorite food is still a part of your meal
plan? Our Registered Dietitians are here to help. If you are hospitalized,
ask your nurse to contact a dietitian. Otherwise, ask your health care
provider for a referral to see one of our Registered Dietitians.

Health Services
Feather River Home Health Agency supports your health care needs in your
home. Our Professional Nurses and Health Care Specialists assist you in
maintaining your health, recovering from illness and promoting independence.
When ordered by your doctor, our skilled staff can teach you how to test
your blood sugar, take insulin and other medications and review your overall
diabetes care.

Diabetes
and Pregnancy: Sweet Success Program
If you are planning a pregnancy, or are pregnant, it is possible to have
both a healthy baby and mother. Your doctor, diabetes nurse educator,
dietitian and social worker are here to help.
The Feather River Hospital Sweet Success Program helps pre-pregnant women
with diabetes, pregnant women with diabetes and women who develop gestational
diabetes.
Our team will help you maintain good blood sugar control by providing:
- Pre-Pregnancy and pregnancy counseling
- Meal planning guidelines
- Self-monitoring of blood glucose
- Adjustments in insulin
- Ongoing support by their doctor

Foot
Screening and Care
Our Certified Wound and Skin Specialist can check your feet for nerve
and circulation problems. To keep your feet healthy, she will recommend
foot care tips, special shoes and other devices. Ask your health care
provider for a referral.

There are many resources at Feather River Hospital to help you with your
diabetes management. Let a member of the health care team know if you
would like to speak to any of the following professionals during your
stay.
Registered Dietitian: can provide you with up-to-date diabetes
nutrition information and help you develop a meal plan that fits your
lifestyle.
Diabetes Education: the nursing staff and our diabetes educator
can help you problem solve and support your efforts to successfully manage
your diabetes.
Pharmacist: can provide information on your current medications
including: action, interactions, side effects and precautions.
Social Work Services: can assist with financial issues, community
resources, housing, coping with illness for both the patient and family.
Case Managers: provide support and resources in preparation for discharge.
